FAQ
Common questions
Can I run DOT hazmat general awareness training online?
The course itself is self-paced and online, and the live deck lets you add a live session. Whether online delivery meets your local rules depends on the law that applies to you, so check 49 CFR §172.704(a)(1) general or ask your own counsel.
How often is this training needed?
Within 90 days of employment or change of job function (may work under direct supervision of a trained person until then); recurrent at least every 3 years; security awareness also within 90 days of a revised security plan; records kept for the preceding 3 years, for as long as employed + 90 days.
Who needs this training?
Hazmat employees - warehouse shipping/receiving staff, packers, label/marking staff, people who sign shipping papers, loaders, drivers (general awareness portion only).
What records should I keep?
Record completion in your own LMS or record system, so you can show who finished the course and when. From the template notes: records kept for the preceding 3 years.
Can I edit the content?
Yes, everything. Change the wording, swap scenarios for ones from your workplace, add your logo, or remove parts that don't apply. Keep anything your own law requires you to cover.
