Question 1 of 3

What is the best way to describe plain English for international teams?

Plain English is about the reader. It keeps your meaning and your professional tone, and removes the guesswork. It is not baby talk, and it does not mean using fewer ideas.

Lesson 1, Why it matters, teaches this. See the outline

Question 2 of 3

A colleague writes: "Let's table this." Why is that risky in a global team?

"Table this" means opposite things in different varieties of English. Say "Let's discuss this now" or "Let's postpone this to Thursday" instead.

Lesson 2, Idioms and metaphors, teaches this. See the outline

Question 3 of 3

Which is the best way to write the date of a deadline?

Writing the month as a word and the year in full means no one has to guess the order. "Next Friday" also changes meaning depending on the day it is read.

Lesson 4, Dates, times and numbers, teaches this. See the outline
