Question 1 of 3

Why did the Friday deadline get confirmed when Lan meant "no"?

Lan and her manager were using different signals. The manager listened for a plain yes or no, Lan expected a softened "no" to be understood. Neither was careless. When you notice a gap like this, check meaning together instead of judging the person.

Lesson 1, Why this matters, teaches this. See the outline

Question 2 of 3

A new colleague joins from another country. What is the best way to use the four spectrums?

The spectrums help you understand a person you have actually observed and asked. They are never a shortcut for guessing how someone will behave from where they are from.

Lesson 2, Styles, not stereotypes, teaches this. See the outline

Question 3 of 3

What is the best way to find out when an observance falls this year?

Dates for many observances change each year, and some depend on a sighting or a local calendar. A current interfaith calendar, or simply asking colleagues, gives the reliable answer.

Lesson 4, Time, calendars and observances, teaches this. See the outline
