The challenges
Dr. Hamad Odhabi, director of the Al-Ain and Dubai campuses of ADU, observed students in lessons and identified 3 main challenges:
- Students were often engaged with their own phones, but weren't engaged in the lesson.
- Classrooms lacked creativity. Lessons were one-dimensional and offered no room for activity or exploration.
- Some students were studying online and needed a way to interact with the learning materials and the lecturer.
The results
ADU contacted AhaSlides for 250 Pro Yearly accounts and Dr. Hamad trained his staff how to use the software in order to raise engagement in lessons.
- Students were still engaged with their own phones, but this time in order to interact live with the presentation in front of them,
- Classes became dialouges; two-way exchanges between lecturer and student that helped students learn more and ask questions.
- Online students were able to follow the topic alongside students in classrooms, participate in the same interactive activities and ask timely, anonymous questions to help clear up misunderstandings.
In the first 2 months, lecturers created 8,000 slides, engaged 4,000 participants and interacted 45,000 times with their students.
