The US Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 2,488,400 recordable nonfatal injuries and illnesses in private industry in 2024, a rate of 2.3 cases for every 100 full-time workers. A quiz is a quick way to check that your team knows the rules that prevent them.
This workplace safety quiz has 50 questions with answers in five rounds of 10: rights and signs, fire, personal protective equipment, slips and falls, and chemicals. Every answer is traced to an OSHA regulation, so you can read the source behind it. Use it for an induction, a toolbox talk or Safe + Sound Week.
A note on scope: the questions follow US federal rules. State plans, local codes and your own site procedures can go further, and if you work outside the US your own regulator comes first. Use the questions as a prompt and swap in your local answers.

Ways to host this quiz with AhaSlides
Run each round as a ten-minute block, one question at a time, and let people answer on their phones. Five slide types cover the whole session:
- Pick Answer: turn each question into a multiple-choice slide and show a team leaderboard after every round. Question 1 (the 8-hour fatality report) is a good opener.
- Pin on Image Quiz: show a photo of your work area and ask players to pin the eyewash station or the emergency stop. Results show every pin and how many landed in the right spot.
- Word Cloud: ask "Which task here worries you most?" The biggest words show where to focus your next toolbox talk.
- Rating Scale: ask "How confident are you in the rules for this round?" from 1 to 5, and compare it with the scores.
- Open Ended: collect one question for your safety lead anonymously and answer the top three out loud.
Ready-made slides save the typing. The Hazard communication and GHS course template gives you a structure to adapt, and the same questions drop straight into it.
Tips for running a workplace safety quiz
- Run it in August. OSHA's Safe + Sound Week is held each August, and the next one is 9 to 15 August 2027. A quiz is an easy way to join in.
- Keep each round to 10 minutes. Ten questions is about right for one session, so five rounds make five short sessions rather than one long one.
- Use the numbers. Open with the BLS figure of 2,488,400 recordable cases in 2024, then ask what the equivalent risk is on your own site.
- Finish with your own site. The quiz covers the standard. Close by asking where your own extinguishers, first aid kit and exits are.
- Do not treat it as training. A quiz checks knowledge. Employees still need the training the relevant standard requires.
Frequently asked questions
What are good workplace safety quiz questions?
Questions on the risks your team faces, with an answer people can check. This quiz has 50 across five areas, each with its source.
How many questions should a workplace safety quiz have?
Around 10 per session. Ten questions take about ten minutes and keep people paying attention, so split a longer quiz into rounds.
When is Safe + Sound Week?
It is held each August. The 2026 week has already run, and the next one is 9 to 15 August 2027, according to OSHA.
Who pays for PPE?
In general, the employer, at no cost to employees. There are exceptions, such as non-specialty safety-toe footwear and everyday clothing. See question 22.
