Rise 360 is a good tool for building polished self-paced courses. The catch for many trainers is the order of work. You usually run the live session first, then rebuild the same material from scratch in an authoring tool so people who missed it can learn at their own pace.
If that double build is the problem, AhaSlides Courses is a Rise alternative worth a look. You run the live training in AhaSlides, turn the same presentation into a self-paced course, and see who has completed it. It is not a replacement for everything Rise does, and this guide says where Rise is still the better pick.
Why people look for an Articulate Rise alternative
Three reasons come up most often.
- Price and packaging. As of October 2026, Articulate's pricing page lists Rise 360 only inside Articulate 360 AI, at $1,449 per seat per year (Personal) or $1,749 per seat per year (Teams).
- A second build. Rise is a self-paced authoring tool. If you already deliver the same training live, you build it twice.
- Live interaction. Rise has knowledge check blocks and scenario blocks for learners working alone. We found no native live polling in Rise's documentation as of October 2026: its block types include knowledge checks and a survey block for anonymous feedback, but no live poll or live session. We have not read every Articulate release note.
For a full roundup of options beyond Rise, see our guide to the best Articulate alternatives for small L&D teams. This page stays on one question: what if the live session is where your training starts?
The AhaSlides workflow: live first, then self-paced
AhaSlides is built for live sessions, and Courses adds a self-paced layer on top. The workflow runs in one direction, from live to self-paced.
- Run the live session. Build your presentation with polls, quizzes and word clouds and present it to your group in the room or online. People answer on their own phones.
- Turn it into a course. Use Turn into a course on the same presentation. AI converts your slides into a course with lessons and blocks. You can also start from a prompt or a file. The help article says to check the result before you publish, and we agree: read every lesson.
- Add knowledge checks. Multiple choice, multiple response, fill in the blank and matching questions are scored on the server, per learner.
- Set what counts as complete. Pick any mix of finishing all lessons, a minimum percentage of correct answers across the knowledge checks, and a minimum number of active learning minutes. Learners see the requirements to pass, and anyone who falls short sees a "didn't pass" screen.
- Assign and track. Learners sign in, so each result belongs to a named person. Set the course to "anyone with the link" or "assigned learners only", and assign it to individuals or learner groups. The course report shows an overview, a breakdown by lesson and a learners tab with each person's activity record: first and last activity, total learning time, attempts and score. You can export it as CSV or PDF.
Worked example: a team lead runs onboarding for new starters on Monday with a live quiz on the product. On Tuesday she turns that deck into a course, publishes it for the two people who were off sick, and checks the report on Friday to see who has finished. She built the material once.
For the exact steps, the AhaSlides guide to creating and publishing a course walks through each screen.

Who AhaSlides Courses suits
- Trainers who deliver live first. If the live session is your main product and the self-paced version is for people who missed it, you avoid the second build.
- Small teams without a spare authoring licence. Courses is part of AhaSlides, and you can start on a free account. We have not published a Courses price, so check the AhaSlides plans page for the latest.
- Internal training that needs a named record. Because learners sign in and have completion rules, you can answer "who has done it" for a standard internal course.
Who should stay on Rise
Stay on Rise, or look at a dedicated authoring suite, if any of these is true:
- You need to publish to an LMS. Rise exports courses as packages for any LMS, according to Articulate's pricing page. Learners take an AhaSlides course in the AhaSlides learner portal, so if your training has to sit inside your own LMS, Rise is the better fit.
- Course authoring is your main job. Rise is a dedicated authoring tool for building courses. AhaSlides is a live presentation tool that also makes courses, so if building courses is most of your week, a dedicated tool is the natural home.
- Your whole team already works in Articulate 360. The same subscription includes Storyline, so moving one course out may cost more in workflow than it saves.
The Rise vs Storyline question is a separate one. Both ship in the same Articulate 360 AI subscription, so you are choosing a tool for the job, not a price tier.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Articulate Rise alternative?
It depends on the job. For trainers who run live sessions and want a tracked self-paced version of the same content, AhaSlides Courses fits. For authoring that must feed an LMS, Rise or another dedicated authoring suite is the safer choice.
Is there a free Rise alternative?
You can start AhaSlides Courses on a free account. Articulate offers a 14-day trial of 360 AI (as of October 2026).
How much does Articulate Rise cost?
As of October 2026, Rise is part of Articulate 360 AI at $1,449 or $1,749 per seat per year, depending on the plan, according to Articulate's pricing page. The pricing page lists it only as part of 360 AI.
Can I turn a live AhaSlides presentation into a course?
Yes. Use Turn into a course on the presentation. The course is a separate, self-paced version, so review it before you publish.
Can I use AhaSlides Courses inside my LMS?
Learners take Courses in the AhaSlides learner portal, where they sign in. If your training must be delivered inside an LMS, Rise is the better fit.
