Easter is the most important festival in the Christian year, marking the resurrection of Jesus. Western churches celebrate it on the Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March, so the date moves between 22 March and 25 April. In 2027 it falls on 28 March. Many Orthodox churches use a different calendar and usually celebrate later.
Alongside the religious celebration there are widely shared customs. Decorated eggs are a long-standing symbol of new life, hot cross buns are a Good Friday tradition in the UK, and the Easter Bunny came to the United States with German immigrants. The Easter egg roll on the White House lawn has been held since 1878.
