Lunar New Year begins with the new moon that falls between late January and mid-February, so the date changes every year. It is celebrated as Chunjie or the Spring Festival in China, Tết in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea, and by communities around the world. In 2027 it falls on 6 February.
Each year in the cycle is linked to one of twelve zodiac animals, and 2026 is the Year of the Horse. Families clean their homes, gather for a reunion meal, give red envelopes with money to children, and many enjoy lion dances and fireworks. Foods, customs and the length of the holiday differ from country to country, and from region to region within a country.
A Lunar New Year quiz is a good way to learn about those differences. The templates here include trivia on traditions, food, symbols and the zodiac, activities for teams, and templates written in Vietnamese, Chinese and Korean.
