Here are 60 horror movie trivia questions with answers, in seven rounds: classic horror, slashers and hauntings, monsters, zombies, new releases from 2024 and 2025, true or false, and an emoji quiz. There is also a short "would you survive?" poll round for the end. Read the questions out at a Halloween party, print the page for a film-night quiz, or run them live so everyone answers on their phone.
Every answer was checked against a source, and no question asks you to remember a line of dialogue. You do not need a strong stomach either: the questions ask about casts, directors, settings and plots, never about gore.

Horror movie trivia template
Rather than type the questions in yourself, start from the Horror Movie Trivia template. It has 11 quiz questions in two rounds (classics and new releases, with Pick Answer, True or False, Categorise and Match Pairs slides) and a leaderboard after each round, on a dark theme with a mood photo behind every question slide. It has no film stills, no posters and no audio. Swap in any questions from this page. It is free to copy into your account.

How to host horror movie trivia live with AhaSlides
Reading questions aloud works well in a living room. If friends are joining from another house, or you want the scores to add themselves up, run the quiz live: everyone joins with a code on their phone, no app needed, and the questions show on the TV or a shared screen.

- Match the slide type to the round. Pick Answer suits the multiple-choice rounds, and Fill in the Blanks works well for "complete the film title" questions.
- Use True or False for the quick round. One statement, two big cards, and the room votes. Round 6 is made for it.
- Pair films and directors with Match Pairs. It takes up to four pairs per slide.
- Sort films with Categorise. Players drag each film into the right decade, or into "supernatural" and "human villain".
- Run the survival scenarios as a Poll. There is no scoring, so it works as a breather between rounds.
- Add a costume contest. Photo Share lets everyone send in a photo, which appears on the big screen as it arrives, and a Spinner Wheel picks the winner of the prize draw.

Halloween games to play between rounds
Horror trivia gets intense, so give the room a break with one of the three new AhaSlides Halloween games:
- Halloween Race. A slide type that sits in your quiz deck. Each player picks a monster on their phone and chance decides which one wins the race, which makes it a fair way to settle a tie.
- Graveyard Dash. A free ghost race with no sign-up. Players scan a QR code, become ghosts and race through a graveyard to the crypt.
- Pumpkin Head Swap. A free name picker. Everyone dances in a pumpkin head until the spotlight picks one player, who answers the next question or chooses the next film.

Short of time? Paste a list of questions into the AhaSlides AI presentation maker and it builds the quiz slides for you.
AhaSlides is free to try: the Free plan lets you run up to 5 quiz questions and 3 poll questions per presentation with up to 50 people joining, which is enough for one short round. For the 11-question template, or the full 60-question quiz night in one deck, you need a paid plan.
More quizzes for the season
- Halloween quiz questions and answers: history, films, adult and kids rounds, plus a ten-question horror round on different films (Psycho, The Exorcist, Scream and Nosferatu among them).
- Guess the movie: picture and emoji rounds, a good first round if the room is not sure it knows its horror films.
- Movie trivia questions and answers: general film questions beyond horror.
- Fall festival games: party games to play around the quiz.
Frequently asked questions
How many horror movie trivia questions should a quiz night have?
Thirty to forty questions in four or five rounds is plenty for one evening. As a rough estimate, allow about 25 seconds to answer each question and about the same again to reveal and discuss the answer, so 36 questions take about 30 minutes plus a few minutes for joining and the leaderboards. Pick the classics, one monster or slasher round, the new releases round and the emoji round, and keep the rest in reserve.
Can I print these horror movie quiz questions?
Yes. Print the page from your browser. Each answer sits directly under its question, so cover the answers or read the questions out from the quizmaster's copy.
Do players need to have seen the films?
No. Most questions ask about casts, directors, settings and basic plot facts that many people know without having watched the film, and none asks about graphic scenes. The true or false and emoji rounds suit players who have seen fewer films.
Answers last checked on 3 October 2026 against the American Film Institute Catalog, Rotten Tomatoes, the BFI, Screen Australia and reviews in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. The sources are listed under each round.
